If you are someone who has a hard time with losing unwanted fat and feel like you are constantly in an endless struggle, the Keto diet might give you the boost that you need.

There is a lot of controversy around the Keto diet, I think that is partially because it is so popular and people are seeing results, fast.

Keto Diet

The main goal on a Keto diet is to get about 70% of your calories from fat, 20% from protein, 5% from carbs and the last 5% from veggies. For most people this seems crazy and seems like it is the opposite of what you are supposed to do. Eat FAT to LOSE weight?!

Yes, it is insane. And it works! Eating fats actually fills you up and makes you feel full, unlike carbs. I started the Keto diet and Intermittent Fasting on December 27, 2018. On January 28, 2019 I was 14.8lbs lighter.

Now that might not be impressive for someone who is 300-400+lbs, but I started at 162 lbs. I am not fat or overweight, but I definitely have fat. If you are heavier you could definitely lose a lot more than I did.

Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent Fasting is just setting a time frame or schedule at when you can or can’t eat. Most people start with a 16 hour fasting window and 8 hour eating window, as did I. Example: You can eat between 10AM and 6PM, and then you fast between 6PM and 10AM.

There are literally hundreds of benefits of intermittent fasting. To name a few:

  • Weight loss
  • Mental clarity
  • Increased energy
  • Improved fat burning
  • Lower blood cholesterol
  • Increase growth hormone
  • Lower insulin and sugar levels

I find fasting in general amazing, it helps clear my mind and it compliments the Keto diet very well.

By the end of my month of Keto, I felt like I had to force myself to eat. I had lost my appetite and was fasting for 20 hours a day and eating in a 4 hour window.

Keto also gets rid of your cravings like no other diet I’ve done before. I am normally a sugar/candy fiend and obviously if you’re cutting out carbs that means NO sugar. On Keto, I have not craved sugar at all!

I didn’t want to cut my calories too much, so I still tried to get in 2 meals in that 4 hour window. That was a challenge to be able to eat 2000ish calories in a 4 hour window and there were a couple days where I could only eat one meal.

Obviously eating less calories helps with the weight loss, but in general I was not eating less calories. I was eating delicious food and not counting any calories.

Issues with Keto

I think the biggest issue people have with Keto, is that they don’t think that it is sustainable for a long period of time. Personally, I don’t think that is an issue for people who are very overweight and have been struggling with weight their whole life. In my mind, if Keto is giving you a boost to start your weight loss and you can see Actual results from it, you will keep going!

People stop doing something when they don’t see results. Keto gets you results. And if that helps you and motivates you to keep pushing and working then I think Keto is the greatest thing in the world.

The most important thing with any diet is to stay motivated and keep pushing yourself to be better than you were. Nothing else matters. Whatever diet you choose, keep moving forward.
